5 Steps to Healthy Hair
In reality, figuring out what works for your hair can be a lifelong journey. What worked a few years ago might not work as well for you today. Our bodies are constantly changing, as well the world around us. We constantly need to tweak & adjust our haircare routine to maintain optimal hair health.
While this makes things confusing—it also makes it fun & exciting. You get to spend your entire life building a relationship with your hair… & I think that’s very beautiful.
Speaking from 12 years of experience as a hairstylist at Bob and Page, here are my top 5 insider-tips that will help guide you in establishing healthy habits to achieve your healthiest hair possible!
1. Minimal heat styling.
You’ve heard this before & we’ll say it again. Stop using excess heat on your hair! Heat styling tools lift the cuticle layer, stripping natural oils & moisture from the hair shaft, which then leaves hair in a vulnerable state. If heat styling cannot be avoided, make sure to always protect your hair beforehand.
My personal favourite protectant is PHD Heat Styling Spray by Living Proof. It offers smoothness that protects hair from heat without weighing it down! The versatile formula can be used on damp or dry hair before blow-drying, flat-ironing, or curling.
2. Frequent trims.
While it may sound counterintuitive, committing to a regular routine of haircuts can actually help promote hair growth. Setting a schedule may improve your hair growth & promote healthier hair. Aim to head to your hairstylist for a “dusting” every six to ten weeks.
3. Treat wet hair with TLC.
Wet hair is more prone to breakage, making it necessary to be more mindful of your post-shower routine. One common mistake is to vigorously rub wet hair with a regular towel. The texture of the towel can rough up the surface of hair by lifting up the cuticle layer of the hair, leading to frizz & damage. Instead, choose to softly pat dry, & wrap hair with one of our Luxe Dry Hair Towels.
Not only will Zenchies Luxe Dry Hair Towels help prevent damage & frizz, they also help dry your hair much more efficiently in comparison to a regular towel. Our hair towels have a massive absorption capacity, & designed with a pocket to fit any amount of hair; from thin to thick!
4. Eat a balanced diet
Maintain a balanced, nutrient- dense diet that includes omega-3 fatty acids, adequate protein intake & essential minerals/ vitamins. These nutrients can help stimulate the natural production of natural oils on both the hair & scalp. They may also aid in preventing or reducing split ends & damage. Always consult with your Doctor, or Natural Path before making any sudden changes to your diet.
5. Switch to silk.
Sleeping on a silk pillowcase won’t just make you feel like a princess, it will also do wonders for your hair, We spend roughly eight hours a night sleeping, so making sure our hair is in contact with quality fabric during that time is very important. The silk rule also applies to hair ties! Ditch your regular elastics, & swap them for silk (or ’silk’ like) scrunchies. The consistency of high-quality materials allows the hair to easily glide across it rather than be pulled on like some fabrics tend to do.
